Influence of the Food Habits on Fertility

Whatever you (couples) eat and drink has a direct impact on your general as well as reproductive health. Your eating habits influence the quality of your sperm and eggs. Further, your aging affects both the quantity and quality of your sperm and eggs. As a result, you have a reduced chance of having a conception or enjoying parenthood.

Dr. Ruchi Malhotra, a fertility expert at an IVF clinic in Delhi, states that a couple should have a healthy lifestyle with a focus on a healthy and well-balanced diet. Here is more of what she says about how food habits influence fertility:

Essential for reproductive health and fertility

A highly nutritious diet is compulsory for a healthy body and good reproductive system. It increases fertility and conception chances. On the other hand, a poor diet can lower the quality and quantity of your eggs and sperm. As a result, your fertility will decline.

Good for blood supply

It is crucial to have enough blood supply to the testicles and ovaries. Due to it, there will be enough oxygen, nutrients, and hormones for the optimization of your reproductive system’s function. So, your diet should be supportive of it.

Good testosterone production

Good levels of testosterone hormones boost the quality of semen. As a result, it has healthy sperm in terms of quality and quantity. Certain supplements can help boost testosterone production. You should discuss it with your doctor prior to taking any supplement.

Minimization of certain foods or food items

With age, there is a decrease in the antioxidant capacity of semen and egg fluid and cells. Foods cooked at high temperatures also contribute to it. Further, high sugar intake is also a cause of it. So, you should minimize or avoid eating grilled or barbecued foods, sugar, and allied items.

Need for antioxidants

There is a need for antioxidants in high levels around the seminal fluid. So, as a male, you should take food items that are rich in antioxidants. A dietitian at a fertility centre can help you in this regard. You can include green tea and berries in your diet. However, both of you must avoid having red wine and chocolates due to the high content of caffeine and alcohol.

Vitamin C and E

A higher amount of vitamin C and vitamin E can lower the risk of DNA fragmentation in a male’s sperm. So, as a male partner, you should include food items enriched with these vitamins in your daily diet.

Fat consumption

Both eggs and sperm need energy at a high level to function well. So, both of you include fat-rich food items in your diet for more energy production. However, you should avoid consuming excess fat to avoid weight gain or obesity.

Conclusion

To enjoy parenthood, you need to maintain your fertility. And you can do it by focusing on your diet which must be healthy and well-balanced. You need to have an idea of what to avoid before you start working on your family expansion plan. A dietician or fertility expert can help you a lot.
